The Baboon Gambler
Lyrics
On a cold winter’s eve
At table at the Palm
I met up with a gambler
He was dining with a baboon
So I sat down with him
And I asked him ‘bout the baboon
He said he won him in a card game
And he was his to keep
So I envied the gambler,
and his good luck in that card game.
And I asked if he could tell me
‘bout gamblin’ for primates
And the man got deathly quiet
And his face lost all expression
Said, “If you’re gonna play for monkeys, boy,
You gotta learn to care for apes.”
You gotta know when to feed ‘em
Know when to bath ‘em
Know when to dress ‘em up
in a suit and tie
And never turn your back
When you’re sittin’ at the table
That baboon’ll rip your lungs out
In the blink of an eye.
