Lyrics

Once upon a time you felt so fine
Gave to “March of Dimes” in your prime didn’t you?
Now people call, all appalled, afraid you had a fall
You think they were all a-kiddin’ you?
You used to could walk about.
And ignore the stuff Michael Fox was handing out
Now you can’t talk so loud
and when you walk your head is bowed “
You look just like a condemned man having his last meal

How does it feel? How does it feel?
To be as stiff as stone
With your affliction known
Like a PARKINSONE

ah You played your funny songs for Mr. Tony years ago ,
and you only got a little juice from it.
Nobody’s ever taught you how to live with your PD
And now you’re gonna have to get used to it.
Your immune system’s compromised
In your fantasy world, but now you realize
You can’t make any alibis, when you stare in the mirror at your eyes
And beg:“God, is there any way we can make a de-al?”

How does it feel? How does it feel?
To be as stiff as stone
Like a ceramic gnome
Your diagnosis known
Like a PARKINSONE

You never dreamed your mouth would fix in frowns
Like Clay, from Churchill Downs
When you both go down, there’ll be no perks for you
You never understood that it ain’t no good
Having other people decide exactly what works for you
Used to dream of a home with a laundromat
Then you got it all, and it all fell flat
Was it hard when you discovered that
It hits you like a baseball bat
After it takes from you everything it could steal?

How does it feel? How does it feel?
To be as stiff as stone
Like a ceramic gnome
Your affliction known
Like a PARKINSONE

Ahhh Calling Mr Tony and all his former cronies
Pardon the interruption eruption now he’s got it made
Like the Queen of Mean you’d help him vent his spleen
But now he’s got his very own Google machine that Mr. Braun had made
You used to be so amused
With your little guitar and the lyrics you abused
Look at you now, he calls you, you can’t refuse
When you’ve got PD, you got nothing to lose
You’re invisible now, you’ve got no secrets to reveal
How does it feel? How does it feel?
To be as stiff as stone
Like a ceramic gnome
Your affliction known
Just like a PARKINSONE

Echoing what Rob said - some great but tough writing here Chap. And keep doing your thing, we need more like you out there to understand what this means for a person living with Parkinson's.

man, this is some really good writing. the last 4 lines of the 3rd verse are especially vivid and well-crafted. and you're right about the gnome. i'm not going to pretend to have any idea what it must feel like, but keep writing. creativity always seems to help a situation.

I wrote and recorded this almost two years ago, never having heard of TK Jingles. I thought it expressed something I needed to express perhaps to prompt an awareness of Parkinsons disease.. The passing of Muhammad Ali, "Clay, from Churchill Downs" [we both hailed from Louisville] prompted me to put it up here. I'm grateful for the opportunity this Forum provides. Life is not always jolly, however, the alternative is unacceptable. And I think the image of the "garden gnome" is pretty funny.
