Lyrics

To "Brandy (You're a Fine Girl)" by Looking Glass

There’s a hole in our broadcast day
That used to house our friend TK
But he made it clear, he wouldn’t stay
To haunt the Browse-About

There’s a host with an A.M. show
That all the Littles used to know
The weasels gave him the oar to row
But it’s just not the same

The Weasels said, “Andy, do a fine show
[An okay show]
“A team player, you would be
[Not a great show]
“And stop by and pick up your paycheck at Window 3”

All Summer long the Littles tried to listen to Andy’s stories
But the ratings could only take a dive, all sports just left them snoring
But Andy always was a pro, he tap-danced for Tony’s fans
A second banana should understand

Contract signed, Tony’s back you see
And Andy’s back on 570
All his clothing is discounted or free
Nice Job outta you

The Littles said, “Andy it’s a fine show
[An okay show]
“It’d do well from 1-3
[Not a great show]
“but now, it’s time for Grandpa to proceed”

Three days of Andy Polly spot-filling for Kornheiser puts me in mind of this jingle. I'm proud of the writing; the singing, not so much. Should have had Fitz do it.

Didn't this play for 9 consecutive summer from 1971 to 1979? Swapping places with Mungo Jerry on the parade of soporific Top 40? My friends, THIS one is FUNNY!

Huh. All my sister and I would do is flip them off. TK Show prodigies, the both of us.

Oh those backward wagon seats, I always thought it felt strange just staring back at other cars/drivers. My sister and I used to play guess the occupation of the driver, strange variety of answers with a seven year age difference.

For those of a certain age, this jingle is a collision of memories and experience. For me, this is theme song for the backward-facing rumble seat of the station wagon. And now maybe you'll think of it when you're facing forward and behind the wheel.
