Lyrics

It is just so endearing to hear Tony reveal his New Year's ritual of checkbooks and journals, as if this is surely something that everyone does, too, only to have everyone in studio immediately turn on him and let him know, in no uncertain terms, that he has been left behind AGAIN in the ways of the world. He is never more sympathetic than in moments like this.

Everyday (Buddy Holly)

New Year's Day, our guy Mr. Tony
Has himself an old guy ceremony
For us this stuff has surely gone away
A-hey, a-hey-hey

New Year's Day, a new checkbook register
Everyone says "What's a checkbook register?"
That ATM, he'll never come your way
A-hey, a-hey-hey

New Year's Day, nothing could be wronger
He'll still write checks, at least a little longer
Some will say, he's a bit headstrong, sure
That's our Tony!

Browseabout, it's a gettin' closer
Do you take checks? Sorry, that's a "no" sir
And just like that, he'll simply fade away
A-hey, a-hey-hey

I’d say there are only a handful of jingles that made me laugh out loud. “Everyone says what’s a checkbook register” is an awesome line. DA enjoyed it.
