Goodnight Saigon (A Marine Retires) For Carroll
Lyrics
Here's something a bit different. Loyal longtime Little and friend of the show Lt. Col. Carroll Connelley retired from the United States Marines yesterday, and I was very honored to be asked to sing some lyrics to a song he wrote for his retirement ceremony. So with his approval, I am posting it here for our great community to share in some of his memories in our military. Thanks again, Carroll.
PS- Since his time with the Corps. is up, I am told he may be able to devote more time in the coming months for more JINGLE COMPOSITIONS!!!
We met as clan-mates on Rose Hill Driveway
You mocked my skin tone, in front of Safeway
And we were hot, so hot at night
And who got the fan was always a fight
We sat on milk cans, and fell like grass blades
We burned down houses, with butter first aid
And we learned fast, to shout and fight
Our skin was pale but our freckles were bright
We had our hot dogs, we had our chick peas
We made popcorn balls at Mrs. Easterlings (weak rhythm)
We broke a lamp, and drank too much
And shop’d for school with the Pennsylvania Dutch
We had no oxygen, when the tent broke
We smelled like moth balls, And Salem cig smoke
And it was fun… in hindsight
And we held onto each other like scared little buggers
We promised each other our lives
And we would all be proud together
We said we'd all be proud together
Yes we would all be proud together.
Remember Sean Stepp?
