Lyrics

Credit to John Welsh for the jingle idea... Patrick for sharing his great story... Hampton for the amazing jingle that set this in motion (plus adding the Kenny Rogers kicker)... and finally to the crazy-crack-guy from whom all this originates. To all of you - I'm sorry. I've recently had a couple head wounds myself - maybe that explains it.

Lyrics:
At a wedding I attended
I had a good friend that
Got a little inebriated
Jokingly he approached me
And then he engulfed me
It was liked being grabbed by a bear
I crushed a pot of ceramic
To the hospital I went
To get a few stitches in my head
The song he was shoutin'
Was Big Rock Candy Mountain
That friend's name... Kenny Rogers.

You made a fine jingle out of that song
Forever I thought that I'd hate hearing that one
I had a head wound
But I tell you Hampton
Even though it once did me wrong
You made a fine jingle out of that song

A parody of "Lucille" by Kenny Rogers (It had to be Kenny...)

Randomly came upon this thing while looking for bracket jingles, read thru the comments as I was listening, and realized that Patrick now does in fact have at least a couple friends with a podcast that have had him on, and during one appearance last year the Kenny Rogers story was mentioned. So it took over 1000 days, but this thread is complete! :)

if jorge luis borges were alive and wrote jingles, this is the kind he would be pumping out. i have no words, only admiration for both tracks.

Oh... and this will really be complete when Patrick has a friend with a podcast who often says "Have you heard the Kenny Rogers story?" Also- I laughed way too hard when I saw that Brad ended his comment about candy with "Sweet!" The subtle master.

I can never seem to pass up something when it's ridiculous and so inside that about only 5 other people on earth will even get it. Thanks for indulging me.

Brad, this jingle is so deeply embedded it could be a sleeper cell on Homeland.

Wow. You should try a jingle about the candy preferences of various celebrities that may have been encountered in various area codes around the country. But it wouldn't be as deeply inside as this one! Sweet!

I must have missed Patrick's story. Where and when, Patrick? Regardless, I enjoyed this jingle tremendously!

My friend, and he continues to be my friend despite dropping my head through a potted plant, will get a tremendous laugh out of this. He continues to feel terrible about it (as he should). Now it's a song, that sprung from another song, on a website, about tunes played on, and created for a radio show, hosted by Tony Kornheiser. A long strange trip to find some appreciation for Big Rock Candy Mountain, the song that split open my head.

I should mention that, at 2 pm today, I sent in an email stating "Tony, be sure to ask Patrick Moffett for his Kenny Rogers story."
