Lyrics

Big thanks to John Fitzpatrick on helping me iron out the lyrics (he's a lot funnier than I am ;-)).

The Ballad of Barry the Trotz

From a town known as Dauphin, Mannitoba
Lived a boy with a bent stick in his hand
And his hockey life sublime
Made him a legend in his time
Since then he’s always in demand

Started changing cultures first time with the Pirates
Taught ‘em how to clear the crease and shoot the shots
And his age and his wit
Won them the AHL championship
And the word spread of Barry the Trotz

Well, he kinda traveled heavy
And he knew he couldn’t play
Tho he knew he could coach ‘em up, win the game
And his suits all came from Wal-Mart
And he hardly needs a comb
Still the Nashville gen’ral manager called his name

Well, it took a long five years to reach the playoffs
Where they lost it right away to the Red Wings
They’d win a lot more games
But it would always end the same with
The Predators out, wearing no rings

So that warm summer day in Twenty Fourteen
Leonsis made the call from one of his yachts
And the media would slurp
About the greatness of the twerp
We all know as Barry the Trotz!

Well, you know the same old story
Of this great franchise of old
They blew a two game lead and it’s a shame
And the fans all got emotional
Coach ain’t yet transformational
And we all know who Tony’s going to blame

From a town known as Lynbrook, Long Island
Comes a boy who loves to take a big dig at
This “Trotzy” fella now
And you can bet we’ll hear just how
Tony said that he had that

This one got mentioned during last week's jinge-rama, but Nigel commented on its length. They liked it tho, so maybe it'll get some love as the hockey seasons comes down the stretch. Fingers crossed!

I'm not sure we could fit a yacht on the River Styx, but I'm willing to give it one hell of a shot.

Yacht rock would be ideal for that idea - And why not go right to the bow with Christopher Cross.

We totally need to do a stupid jingle of all of the yachts he owns. The hunt for spring choketober (not a boat, but mariner at least)

I wonder which yacht. Couldn't you look that one up, Fitz? I esp. like "started changing cultures" - whimsical!

Yes, very impressive research. Not sure I even knew there was an AHL or Portland Pirates.... ;-) Just for the record, no research went into the Wal-Mart line. None. Great job, John N!

You know I'm always down with "I had to do some research for this one..."

Still not sure I pronounced "Dauphin" correctly, but I had to do some research for this one...although I can't attest to his suit brand ;-)

Nice, this is great all around. I'm really impressed with all that's going on in the lyrics - crafted and put together as much as the original.

Wonderful work! And unlike Billy's version, I suspect this is historically accurate!
