Lyrics

Gotta Serve Somebody

You may own a franchise that’s not worth a second glance
You may like to hire guys with a splashy cash advance
You may imagine this team can be champion of the world
But the vortex here’s so strong it catches everyone in its swirl

So you're gonna have to fire somebody, yes indeed
You're gonna have to fire somebody
It may be some QBs or it may be the Coach
But you're gonna have to fire somebody

Might’ve had the rookie of the year prancing on that stage
Might have pal’d around with him, trying to fend off that middle age
You may be a businessman but all you’re trading in is grief
Things ‘round here are hopeless seems like no one here’s the Chief.

So you're gonna have to fire somebody, yes you are
You're gonna have to fire somebody [fire somebody]
Well, if you took a poll it might be you they’re voting for
But you're the only un-fire-able somebody [fire somebody]

A parody of the tune RS named as Dylan's second worst ever, Gotta Serve Somebody

Oh I remember this era Dylan really well. Not long after Blood on the Tracks, and Bob had gone all evangelical, freaking everyone out more than going electric at Newport. Though I believe the Pope approved this time.

Thanks John, I had fun with it. I know 1979 Dylan is not exactly the mainstream...I actually came to this tune from the soundtrack of The Sopranos

Oh, and Rolling Stone this is the second worst Dylan song, they definitely didn't listen to Down in the Groove

This is great, but how many people other than me were still paying attention at this point in Bobby's career?
